Presto-X-Company was founded in 1932, by Ward A. Combs Sr. when his father suffered a stroke and was unable to return to work. He was encouraged by the family doctor to work full-time at his summer drug store job and sell rodent bait called “Presto Pax”, on the side. In the thirties different rodent bait formulas were sold to businesses and homes and they applied the product themselves. As a result of Ward’s sales calls, he was offered a job treating a hotel for bedbugs and rats when the hotel was unable to apply his products themselves. His success in this first venture in pest management resulted in offers to treat all of the hotels’ properties, allowing him to set up an office in the back of the doctor’s office that originally encouraged him to start selling the rodent bait. In his early days he would use the doctors X-ray room to mix the different chemicals that he used to create his methods to eradicate insects and rodents.
Ward Combs Sr. understood the importance of expanding his knowledge of pest management and attended the annual Purdue Conference at Purdue University. The Purdue Conference is where pest management specialists get together to discuss current practices and new techniques in the process of pest eradication, an educational process that we still continue today, along with additional technical conferences and monthly educational sessions for all of our company associates.
Presto-X-Company has grown from the early days when Ward employed one person, to the present with almost two hundred and fifty employees who service the central United States. In addition, through our partnership with Copesan, we have the ability to service our clients pest management needs nationwide.
